Ride the Trails

THE EXPERIENCE

Chestnut Ridge offers 362 acres of beautiful, rolling hills and green, mature forest for your enjoyment in either a 30 minute or hour long trail riding experience. Our expert staff will take care of everything, so all you have to do is enjoy the ride.

Rides are offered Winter, Spring, and Fall by reservation.

1 Hr. Trail Ride

  1. Approx. Time - 1 hr. in saddle + 20-30 min. for orientation/ instruction

  2. Cost - $55 per rider (up to 10)

  3. Age - All riders must be at least 7 years old and less than 240 pounds

  4. Availability - By Reservation 

30 Min. Trail Ride

  1. Approx. Time - 30 min. in saddle + 20-30 min. for orientation/ instruction

  2. Cost - $40 per rider (up to 10)

  3. Age - All riders must be at least 7 years old and less than 240 pounds

  4. Availability - By Reservation 

UPON ARRIVAL

  • You will be greeted by our equestrian staff who will prepare you for your ride

  • All riders will participate in an orientation and safety demonstration

  • Riders will be provided the appropriate safety equipment (includes helmet for all riders)

  • Our expert staff will pair you with a horse that is appropriate to your size and skill level 

DURING THE RIDE

  • Our guides will lead your group as you explore Chestnut Ridge 

  • Equestrian staff has sole discretion over whether participants will walk, jog, or lope

To add riding to your Retreat stay, please indicate on your ERF

ATTIRE

  • Long pants

  • Closed toed shoes with a defined heel (boot)

  • Clothes should be comfortable, durable, and appropriate for the season

  • Please no dangling jewelry

  • Corrective eyewear should be appropriate for outdoor use 

  • Helmets are required (provided by Chestnut Ridge)

INCLEMENT WEATHER

In the case of inclement weather, equestrian program staff will contact you by phone no later than 1 hour before your trail ride is scheduled to start. Trail rides are only canceled due to thunderstorms, temperatures below 40, and other extreme weather conditions. If you are unsure whether to come or not, please do, bringing appropriate clothing/items to protect you in the weather (such as gloves, poncho, etc.). If the weather forecast is uncertain, staff may contact you to discuss whether you’d like to reschedule or not.

WAIVER

Required for ALL riders

Please inform our staff of any special physical considerations

CANCELLATIONS

If for some reason you need to reschedule or cancel your trail ride, we would be happy to do so with at least 24 hrs. notice.  Without this notice, you will still be charged full price for your trail ride.  If you need to alter the number of riders you are bringing, please do this at least 24 hours in advance as well, otherwise we may not have the correct number of horses ready to ride.  If you bring fewer riders without notice, you will still be charged for the original number.
