Duskie Camp

Completed 5th - 8th grade

Duskies choose one of the camps listed below. These are known as your "major". Do you like to hang out in trees? Then choose the Challenge & Teambuilding major. Are you more on the artistic side? You can choose the Arts & Crafts major. At Chestnut Ridge, you get to decide which activities you do each day and meet new friends who share your interests. You will participate in your major with the same counselors and campers each morning. In the afternoons, campers will choose from a wide array of electives offered each day.

This is a matrix showing when each Duskie camp is offered throughout the summer. Detailed descriptions of each camp are below. "Open" indicates specific camp is available during listed session.  "Waitlist" indicates specific camp is full during listed session and there is a waitlist. Please contact the camp office if you wish for your camper to be added to the waitlist.

The Community Farm

Cooking Camp

Roll up your sleeves, feel the dough between your fingers and get ready to slice and dice. This hands-on camp focuses on cooking from scratch using fresh, local, seasonal, and organic ingredients. Whether your child wants to be the next Top Chef or simply the maker of a delicious, homegrown pesto sauce, Cooking Camp is a great opportunity to expose your camper to new foods while learning a variety of cooking skills in a fun atmosphere.

Nature Quest

Take a walk on the wild side! Meet native and non-native plants and animals that make Camp Chestnut Ridge their home. Learn about predator/prey relationships, track casting, and the aquatic ecosystem of Lake Fellowship.

Challenge & Teambuilding

Do you like to hang out in the tree tops? This camp features group teambuilding activities like initiative games and the low challenge course, and more individual challenges with the high challenge course, zipline, and tree climbing.

Target Sports

Ready. Aim. Fire! Archery, Slingshots, marshmallow launching, catapults, field slingshot range, and waterballoon launching will all test your aim!

Hands-On-Herpetology

Herpetology (the study of reptiles and amphibians) is for campers interested in hands-on ecological fieldwork and exploring the hardwood forest around paulien_turtleChestnut Ridge! Campers will collect, process, and learn about the salamanders, frogs, snakes, turtles, and lizards at Chestnut Ridge. This camp is offered in partnership with professors and students at UNCG, and as part of a doctoral dissertation. Parents will be required to sign an additional release form allowing campers to take part in this research study.

Mountain Biking

altHit the trails! Race down hills and through 362 acres of woods at Chestnut Ridge. Build jumps and learn basic bike maintenance.
*Campers must bring their own mountain bike and helmet.

Kid vs Wild

Ready to get wet? This camp is all about water! Swimming, canoeing, kayaking, inflatable lake toys, water games, and slip-n-slide!

Play Ball! Team up to play many sports like soccer, basketball, ultimate frisbee, flag football, kickball, touch rugby, cricket, beach volleyball, and more!

Horseback Riding

Saddle Up! Campers will care for and ride the horses each day. Learn about tack, grooming, and horse husbandry as you develop riding skills in the Western riding tradition. Campers may ride in the arena and on the wooded trails throughout the 362 acres at Chestnut Ridge.This camp offers a chance to learn from knowledgeable instructors and to have a whole lot of fun while doing it! Riders of all skill levels are welcome.
*Campers are required to wear long pants and boots to ride.

Rock and Raft Camp

altThe Rock and Raft trip for Duskies, which combines rock climbing and white water rafting, is one of the most popular camps we offer each year. The pinnacle of this camp is a 3 day, 2 night trip to the western NC mountains. Campers will spend one day rafting down the Nantahala River in duckies and another day rock climbing in Pisgah National Forest. Specialized equipment is provided. No experience necessary.

Day Camp: $450 per week
