Dinner, Dance and Auction was a Success! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jo Anna Riggins

Sunday morning, sipping coffee in peaceful silence my eye catches a glimpse of the pink, feathery hair brush set my four year old daughter bid on and  won at the silent auction the night before.  A smile creeps upon my face and the sights, sounds and smells of the dinner, dance and auction come rushing back.

6 am Saturday morning the first team of volunteers led by Keith Eudy came to light the grills.  The mouth watering smell of roasting pork filled the air through out the day.  9:00 Kathy Horner and Jane De Giacomo arrived to organize the silent auction; with more than 60 items to display the Morris Center walls were transformed.   Sharon Hilliard, the chair of the annual fund committee, took charge of organizing volunteers who began showing up at 1 pm to set up, clean and prepare the camp for all our guests.

With an hour and a half to spare, all the work and preparations were complete for Chestnut Ridge's first fund raiser!  All that was left was for the guests to come.  Over the course of 4 hours, we had 239 visitors who enjoyed the music of Fescue 911, the gastronomical delights prepared on site, and the varied assortments of auction items.

Inside the Morris Center, guests and volunteers counted down to close the bidding as Fescue 911 encouraged the folks in the pavilion to line up for square dancing.  The flurry of activity slowed as everyone excitedly awaited to see if they won their choice items.  The question of the evening was finally answered...who won the Ninetendo Wii?!

I stood back, watching volunteers as they tallied each winner's total, enjoying the community of Chestnut Ridge.  As I glanced through the line waiting to check out, I saw Zoe, my daughter, proudly holding her winnings and her dad's hand.  A smile crept upon my face.  What a blessing to be in such a vibrant, giving and fun-loving community!
