Join us in welcoming Rachel Oakes as the new chair of The Friends of Chestnut Ridge (FOCR)!
The FOCRs welcome Rachel Oakes to the helm of the volunteer organization that advocates and supports the ministry at Chestnut Ridge. Rachel is a long-time supporter of camp and retreat ministry at Chestnut Ridge. She brings with her leadership a wealth of practical experience in camps, teamwork, youth and ministry leadership.
Rachel grew up as a camper at Camp Glisson in north Georgia. She loved camp so much that she decided to major in it at Brevard College - though the official title of the degree is "Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education", she is fully convinced that she majored in "Camp". She went on to work for SOS afterschool programs in Transylvania County, SUWS of the Carolinas (a therapeutic wilderness camp for troubled youth), and as a youth minister in north Durham before taking her current position as a chiropractic assistant. Rachel has also spent time on staff at Camp Glisson in Georgia and Camp Asbury Hills in South Carolina, and she spends every weekend she can spare at Chestnut Ridge where she specializes in high ropes and challenge course facilitation.
Rachel says she is absolutly thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as chairperson for the Friends of Chestnut Ridge and looks forward to promoting camp any way she can.
Welcome, Rachel! May God richly bless your leadership! |
