WANTED: SUMMER CAMP HERP ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATORGOOD PAY, GOOD FOOD, GOOD FRIENDS, GOOD WORK ENVIRONMENT
WANTED: An Environmental Educator for a Residential Camp: Chestnut Ridge Camp and Retreat Center near Hillsborough North Carolina is seeking an outdoor and youth oriented person to work full-time this summer (June 6-13 is staff training, June 15-20 is SSA camp), providing engaging environmental education programs focusing on reptile and amphibian populations in central NC. The individual selected for this position can expect to lead daily reptile and amphibian hikes for elementary and middle school students, collect data on animals observed during the hikes and enter the data into an electronic database, track box turtles equipped with radios for a period of time each day, lead night hikes to listen to frog calls several times a week, and other duties focusing on herpetology as assigned. A major responsibility of this individual will be to work with a team of educators and scientists to design and conduct a weeklong herpetology camp for high school students. Room, board and a stipend of $200 per week will be provided. In addition, the environmental educator may apply to serve on the summer residential team at Chestnut Ridge (which includes residential counseling and requires a faith-based commitment) for additional financial compensation.
