If our mission statement says, "...responsible care for the earth..." then how the heck are we doing it?

Frankly, this is a huge and daunting part of our mission. Fortunately, God specializes in tasks that are too large for us to conceive. For our part, we've responded to the call to be stewards of Creation in many ways. Some are evident, others are implicit. Here are some examples...

What are We Doing?

  • Constructing and renovating physical buildings and spaces with an eye towards environmental sustainability [second residence info]
  • Introducing and interpreting God's Creation for hundreds of school children every year through our outdoor education programs
  • Encouraging summer campers to understand where their food comes from through Bible study, gardening, and reflection in the 2007 summer camp program
  • Running all diesel engines on 100% soybean-derived biodiesel
  • Serving fair-trade, organic coffee

What do We Want to Do in the Future?

  • Implement on-site energy generation
  • Grow and provide a portion (at least) of the food served to campers and guests
  • Become a demonstration and teaching resource center to educate and equip the Church on becoming better stewards of God's provision
