Second Residence Builds on Dream

In 2006, Chestnut Ridge completed its first new construction in over a decade. The Second Residence is one implementation of a vision of providing much needed on-site staff residence space. Not only is the new building suited for life at The Ridge, it was designed and constructed with great attention to living lightly on the Earth. Here are a few of the design elements that were incorporated: Passive solar site orientation and building design Effective daylighting Long-lived and recyclable materials (metal roofing and fiber cement siding) Natural, renewable bamboo flooring Compact fluorescent lighting Modular construction to minimize on-site material waste and maximize building performance
