Summer Team Volunteers PDF Print E-mail
Written by Daryl Riggins

Morning WorshipEach summer, we receive requests to volunteer from past campers who are not yet old enough apply as junior staff or who cannot commit to serving a significant part of the summer. While we encourage them to participate in our amazing high school camps, we are  also committed to providing a place in the community for persons who are rising tenth graders or older who wish to volunteer at Chestnut Ridge. Volunteers may apply to serve a maximum of two weeks during the summer. Volunteers must interview with and be recommended by a leadership team member. The interview will be set up after this application and references are received.

The Summer Camp Volunteer’s responsibilities will include a mix of “behind the scenes” service during the day and sharing in community events in the evenings. Service may include, but is not limited to:

  • Maintenance projects
  • Housekeeping
  • Assisting senior staff with Mudpuppy campers
  • Acting as dining hall steward
  • General maintenance or landscaping
  • Assisting senior staff with specific program
  • Assisting in the office
  • Servicing vehicles
  • Assisting with cookouts
  • Running errands around camp

Volunteers staying overnight are expected to participate in evening activities and worship. Volunteers will be housed with the oldest camper group of their gender and, if minors, will be under the supervision of counselors in the evenings. Volunteers do not receive a night off.

Volunteers are expected to maintain the highest possible standards of conduct and commitment to their assigned tasks. Excellent service will be considered favorably on future staff or junior staff applications. Failure to uphold a high code of conduct will result in release from volunteer responsibilities. Volunteers are expected to contribute $25 a week towards the cost of their meals and $25 a week towards the cost of lodging if staying overnight.

In return for providing this valuable service, Chestnut Ridge will provide:

  • Delicious meals for the entire camp week
  • A cool camp t-shirt
  • Valuable work experience in a Christian setting
  • Many thanks!
