Types of Camps Offered and Tuition

Weekday Camp

Day camp is available to campers who have completed kindergarten through 8th grade on a weekly basis.

Day camp drop off is between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. Pick-up is between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m.

The day camp program includes breakfast, lunch and snacks daily. Day camp slots are limited and typically fill up very quickly. Campers may register for multiple weeks, choosing the same or a different major each week. Day camp parents are invited to attend the Parent's Tea on any Sunday afternoon during summer camp.

Please note: While all majors are available to day campers, some majors require an additional program fee as noted on the application.

Resident Camp

Resident camp is available to campers who have completed 1st grade through 8th grade. Registration for all resident camps will be on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 PM. Parents are invited to attend the Parent's Tea on any Sunday afternoon during summer camp.

Camp Expenses and Taxes

Chestnut Ridge Camp and Retreat Center operates as a part of NC United Methodist Camp & Retreat Ministries, Inc. (federal ID number 56-2138935), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation related by faith to the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. While expenses for residential camp do not qualify as tax deductions, day camp may meet those standards. Please consult your tax advisor. Further detail is available from the IRS.

Deposit and Application Fee

For residential camp, a $125 deposit must accompany the application if faxed or mailed. There is a $75 non-refundable application fee included in the deposit amount. Full payment is due by May 1, 2008. No refunds are available after May 1, 2008.

For weekday camp, a $90 deposit for each week of camp must accompany the application. The deposit is non-refundable. Full payment is due before the first day of the weekday camp. No refunds or deposits will be issued.

Campership Information

Camperships are matching funds, up to $150 per camper, of what the local church provides. For example, the local church grants $150, then campership funds will match that $150. The NC United Methodist Camp & Retreat Ministries, Inc. has generously offered to provide a limited number of camperships to match contributions from churches and other organizations for families with financial hardships. So as to assist the greatest number of needy campers, this assistance is limited to one week per child per summer and applies to residential camp only.

Our Campership Fund is funded by an endowment and the generous gifts of individuals and local United Methodist Churches each year. We are able to grant a limited number of partial camperships. It is our expectation that the camper and their local church or one in their community will have made commitments to the cost of the event prior to seeking campership funds. These funds are intended for use by those campers who have extreme need or circumstance.

The Board of Directors has adopted the policy of funding most of the camp's annual operating expenses with user fee dollars. This decision means that fees control, in large part, the quality of the ministry experience Chestnut Ridge seeks to offer. While recognizing that some sacrifice is appropriate for something as vital as children's summer experience and spiritual growth, we benefit from financial assistance from churches, civic organizations, and external sources such as the Myra Morris Campership Fund. Campership assistance will continue to be necessary in order to build and maintain the sort of camp alumni Chestnut Ridge aspires to have. Consequently, significant matching funds have been devoted toward camper fee assistance.

In an effort to allocate resources wisely and fairly, Chestnut Ridge uses the campership request form to determine what a family should reasonably contribute toward summer camp fees. All information from the form, as with all personal camper files, is kept confidential.

The deadline for applying for campership assistance is April 30. Once this deadline has passed, families can still apply for aid, with the understanding that camperships may not be extended by the time camp registration is due.

Donations and Support

Chestnut Ridge operates on the simple premise that the very finest in program, facilities, and staff is an effective witness to Jesus Christ in the world. Costs of operations are fully borne by Chestnut Ridge and the NC United Methodist Camp and Reatreat Ministries, Inc., with user fees reduced by assistance from donations generously given by individuals, families, corporations, and institutions who share the same value for excellence in camping ministries.If you share this vision, then please consider donating of your time, talents, gifts, and service. In addition, Chestnut Ridge invites local churches and church organizations to partner with church youth who wish to attend camp and who face hardship in paying the full tuition.
