Christmas CarolingAfter School has shown a lot of Christian hospitality the past few months.  We’ve been blessed to help the Third Thursdays group make homemade gifts for friends and families.  In December 2007, our Middle Schoolers shopped for gifts for homeless children.  And during Christmas break, we baked cookies and carried them with our joyful singing to area nursing homes where we shared smiles, carols, and lots of love with the residents.

Mission and Goal

The Chestnut Ridge After School Program provides a safe, fun and exciting Christian based environment for children in grades K-8. We are committed to providing children a place and a program that enhances self esteem and social skills, increases responsibility, and reinforces good learning habits in a positive community. The ministry is focused on meeting the informal learning needs of children in non-school hours. We believe children need an after school environment that invites them to explore, create and experience the gifts of nurture and care. To achieve this goal, the program will be facilitated by experienced staff, gifted in working with and teaching children.

Activities

We are excited to offer after school students access to many of the same programs that make our summer camp the best. After school students will have opportunities for swimming, canoeing, archery, crafts, hiking, games, volleyball, basketball and much more. Occasionally after school students will also get to do special activities such as hayrides, pony rides, s'mores, storytelling, and more to cap off a great week. Snacks and an optional home work time will be provided daily.

Camper Clubs

This is an exciting new venture for our After School program! Camper Clubs are a new opportunity for us to get to know each other better as we explore individual interests and hobbies. It’s a program that will give campers the chance to enhance their creativity or discover hidden talents they may not even know about! But more than that...it’s a chance for us to just HAVE FUN!!

There’s one more perk of this awesome new venture...it gives you the chance to come “play” with us!! If you have a special interest, hobby, or talent you could facilitate as a Camper Club, we’d love for you to join the fun!! Let Jeana know your interest by calling the Office or via This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

When do Camper Clubs happen? Every Friday (beginning February 1st)

Here’s how it’ll work...Each month we’ll notify you of the Camper Clubs being offered. We’d like for your camper to sign up for his/her 1st, 2nd & 3rd choices of club. There is a Camper Clubs pouch on Jeana’s office door for the sign-ups and the deadline for club sign-up is the 15th of the month. We’ll try our best to get your camper into his/her 1st choice but some clubs will have to be limited so we like to know alternate choices.

Life Skills

Last month, we started “Life Skills” with our middle school campers. Every other Wednesday we’ll be exploring different life skills with our 6th - 8th graders. Lots of things we may take for granted are wonderful tasks to learn at this age...and these are abilities our campers can take with them throughout life.

We’ll learn some basics of car care like how to change the oil and fix a flat! No need to hire a mechanic anymore. Could you use a little help in the kitchen? We’ll delve into meal planning, shopping & preparation to encourage your camper to be proficient!

There’s so much to learn and share with your campers! Here’s the neatest part...the campers get to submit their own ideas for what Life Skills they’d like to explore next!! Look out for your camper’s newest “knack”!

Faith Practices

Each week, we’ll have a special theme for discussion. Some examples of Faith Practice themes are: Gratitude, Encouragement, & Grace. We’ll talk about the meaning of the theme, and how we can incorporate these practices into our lives.
